Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The International Aviation Snow Symposium is returning to Buffalo from April 25 through the 30th. The event at the Buffalo Convention Center is a week-long learning event for many airports that require snow fighting and snow removal.

Deputy Director of Aviation for the NFTA Russell Stark said that the event has been in Buffalo since 1983. The event has been held in Buffalo due to its central location and the amount of snow Western New York receives every year. Stark added that there over 50 vendors at the Snow Symposium.

"I can probably guess that there's going to be some vendors here that have the ADSB for situational awareness for operators on the airport," Stark said. "So that's some of the new technology that's coming for safety on the airports. So I'm assuming that that's going to be a large part of the offerings down at the convention center."

The event that will wrap up the Snow Symposium is the snow plow rodeo, where the operators have to go through an obstacle course. Kelly Khatib, Public Information Officer for the NFTA, said the winner will get a championship belt. Buffalo has won the rodeo the last couple of years and is looking to win it again.

"It is extremely competitive, but...it's not like soccer, where they go fisticuffs in the stands," Stark said. "It's good natured competition, and it's a good learning event for those snowplow operators."

Khatib's proud that Buffalo gets to host this event every year.

"When you're talking about snow and how to remove it, Buffalo is the place to go," Khatib said. "We're an award winning airport when it comes to snow removal, and we're very proud of that. So that's why we have it here every year."
