Swim Team Dives into Sweet Home History

For the 12th consecutive year Sweet Home High School has hosted the ECIC championship meet. After finishing 2nd last year (highest the team has placed ever) behind the Hamburg Bulldogs, this year Sweet Home's goal was to make the top five according to team captain Ryan Hayter. Sweet Home came to get people to qualify for the state championship meet at ECC in downtown Buffalo.
Sweet Homes' first event wasn't until the 200 freestyle where they started to see swimmers from the hometown team. Sweet Home came in first and fourth with sophomore Patrick Hayter breaking the school record, and qualifying for the state championship meet with a time of 1:46.88. In the 200 individual medley senior Ryan Hayter, and sophomore Jordan Chatelle both placed in the top four earning patches. More sparks started flying when junior Paulo Pereria won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.31. In the 200 freestyle relay Sweet Home Breaks another school record with the the team of both Ryan and Patrick Hayter, Jordan Chatelle, and Paulo Pereria with the time of 1:32.97.
Solid performances came from Matt Ciminelli finishing in 7th place in the 100 yard breaststroke. Evan DiPasquale qualified for the Class A championship in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.03. Jordan Chatelle finishes fifth in the 100 yard butterfly. Patrick Hayter also got the school record, but missed state cuts by two One hundredths of a second 100 yard freestyle.
In the final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay, was where Paulo Pereria, Patrick Hayter, Jordan Chatelle, and Ryan Hayter wanted to win. Leading off for Sweet Home was Patrick Hayter who finished with 48.78 in his 100 yards of the relay followed by Jordan Chatelle with 50.80. Orchard Park started to catch up as the shoulders rested on Paulo Pereira going a 50.13 handing it off to captain Ryan Hayter. Hayter held off the Quaker attack and finished with a 50.86. Once again Sweet Home broke another school record but missed the state cut by two seconds. Sweet Home finished fourth overall with 224 points, behind only Starpoint with 241 points, Hamburg with 291.5 points, and Orchard Park with 342 points.
Sweet Home hopes to qualify more people for sectionals and states as they head off to the Class A championship meet at Clarence on February 14th, 2016, where I'll be keeping you up to date.
